Artist Statement

Cielo, Mare, Terra continues to explore the relationship between diffused light and color. These works combine the rawness of reclaimed building materials, such as crates, pallets, & hardware, with the slickness of sanded clear and mirrored acrylic plexiglass panels. This juxtaposition, allows the viewer to experience these works very differently from up close examination to observation from a distance. My hope is that the viewer would feel compelled to get up close to examine my process and discover the layered approach to my works.

Cielo, Mare, Terra, refers to my observation of sky, sea and land during recent trips to Italy, Mexico, and the American West. The light as observed though experiencing cloud formations over the ocean, lakes, rivers at different times of the day captured via cell phone imagery. The usage of mirrors / combined with sanded ½” acrylic panels along with open framing sections allows the ambient light to reflect on the finished pieces.
